I really have enjoyed my experience with Twitter in this class so far. I have not been interacting with that many students in class yet but I hope to as the semester goes on and there are more assignments, Twitter will be a good way to ask questions and connect with them outside of class. I have been using Twitter more as a news source to keep updated with the new ways technology is being used in education and that has been interesting especially because I will be a teacher within the next 4 years and could be using some of this new technology. In my future career as a teacher I could see myself using Twitter with other educators to learn creative ways to teach. There are so many teachers across the country with new and fun ideas and Twitter is a great platform to connect with them to build my own repertoire. The digital divide can affect student success in school because students that have technology more readily availa...

Resource Critique Activity

I chose to look at the Generating Grammar Gurus lesson plan for kindergarten. I like how the lesson plan breaks up the parts in sentences into different days with activities, and videos involved with each of them. First, introducing certain words kids see in sentences gives them some background on the topic. Then, beginning with nouns there is a BrainPOPJr. video which I really like as a resource because I remember BrainPOP videos being helpful for me in Elementary School. For the next day involving verbs an activity used is "act it out" which helps students understand that verbs are action words. Next, for adjectives a video can be shown, which incorporates the digital aspect, along with an "I Spy" game where the students use many adjectives to describe an object. Finally, to sum up all the parts of the sentence, if an interactive white board is available, they can practice going up to the front and ordering the sentence in the right way. http://www.cpalms.org/Pu...

I think I am prepared to teach the standard involving comparing a written story to audio, video or live version. Throughout school in many English classes I was in we used video or live versions of Shakespeare to help better understand the more difficult vocabulary. It is such a great resource and can help kids not fall behind that are at lower reading levels. I think I am going to need to learn further how to explore digital tool to produce and publish work, and collaborate with others. I have taken a couple of online classes and struggled in this area, more work with technology can help me improve in this field. I could see my class using ClassDojo to help manage student behavior. I could discuss with them online empowerment and encourage rewards for students with good behavior, or improved behavior once they see they were lacking in days previous. I want to be a kindergarten teacher so the use of technology in classrooms is difficult when they are that young, but behavior manage...

I have used Microsoft Word a lot in my time as a student. Every research paper, essay, or small assignment that needs to be typed, I use Word. It is extremely user friendly easy to save and print documents from. My teachers have used Word for their syllabus, tests, and class handouts. I could not imagine education without Microsoft Word because every time I need to print or type it is my go to, along with most teachers and students. I am very familiar with copyright and fair use from taking digital design in high school. I would be able to use certain images in my assignments because they were only for class and that fell under fair use, however if I were to use the poster I made for an actual product while using someone else's image, that would fall under copyright. As a teacher it is important to inform students of these concepts and by using programs such as Photoshop they can create their own unique images for whatever purpose they choose. One issue that faces stu...

Teachers today have many influences internal and external convincing them to use technology in the classroom, but most importantly they use it to make sure their students are prepared for society and can go out into the world in the 21st century feeling confident in using the technology around them. Students on the other hand like the way technology can incorporate specific environmental factors, psychological factors, and personal filters that work best for their learning. The ISTE standards are used to keep teachers accountable for understanding and implementing technology in the classroom. One standard I find particularly meaningful is the Leader Standard which enforces educators to seek out leadership opportunities to support student success and improve teaching. I believe being a leader is the most important trait in a teachers so this standard goes hand in hand with the job title. One standard that might be outside my skill set as of ...
