I have used Microsoft Word a lot in my time as a student. Every research paper, essay, or small assignment that needs to be typed, I use Word. It is extremely user friendly easy to save and print documents from. My teachers have used Word for their syllabus, tests, and class handouts. I could not imagine education without Microsoft Word because every time I need to print or type it is my go to, along with most teachers and students.
I am very familiar with copyright and fair use from taking digital design in high school. I would be able to use certain images in my assignments because they were only for class and that fell under fair use, however if I were to use the poster I made for an actual product while using someone else's image, that would fall under copyright. As a teacher it is important to inform students of these concepts and by using programs such as Photoshop they can create their own unique images for whatever purpose they choose.
One issue that faces students in the classroom is privacy. With social media becoming more and more popular, students of a very young age are having access to websites such as Facebook and Twitter and could be sharing private information without realizing what they are doing. On Facebook a student can tag their location making it very easy for someone to see where they are at that moment. By having a lesson in class showing students examples of what can happen when they share too much information online it would inform students and hopefully show them what they should and should not share. Cyberbullying is another important issue that a lot of students may not even realize they are doing. I watched a video in school that showed the impact of what something said behind a computer can do to another person emotions and it was very impactful. I would definitely show something to that degree in my classroom. Academic honesty has become an issue revolving around online classes and assignments where students can look up the answers and cheat. As a teacher I would make sure there is no easy access to Quizlet's that have the answers to online quizzes, and make different versions so students cannot work together.
